Browser extension

You build flows with the Tracya browser extension. It opens a sidebar directly on your own web app, so you can point at the elements you want to guide people through and configure each step on the real page, not a screenshot or a copy. Everything you design is created live on the interface your users actually see.

The extension is available for Chrome and Firefox. The Chrome version also covers Edge and Opera, which are built on the same engine.

Install it

Find Tracya in the Chrome Web Store or on Firefox Add-ons and add it to your browser. Once installed, a Tracya icon appears in your browser toolbar. You may need to pin it from the extensions menu to keep it visible.

Connect it to your account

Click the Tracya icon to open the popup. The first time, it asks for two things: your account email and an extension token.

The token is how the extension proves it belongs to you, without ever handling your password. To create one, open the dashboard, go to the Account tab, and find the Browser Extension section. Give the token a name so you can recognise it later, like "Work laptop", and click Generate token. The token is shown only once, so copy it straight away.

Back in the popup, enter your email, paste the token, and click Connect. You only do this once per browser. The token is stored locally and the extension stays connected until you disconnect or revoke it.

Open the Builder

With the extension connected, navigate to your own web app in the browser, in the tab where you want to build. Open the popup, pick the project you are working on from the Project dropdown, and click Open Builder.

The first time you open the Builder on a given site, the browser asks you to grant access to that site's pages. This is the permission the extension needs to draw its sidebar and let you select elements. It is requested only at that moment, only for the site you are on, and the extension does nothing on your pages until you explicitly open the Builder. Click Grant access to continue.

The Builder sidebar then slides in on the right, and you are ready to design your flow. Building flows is covered on its own page.

What the extension can and cannot see

The permission you grant lets the extension inject its sidebar and read the structure of the page so you can select elements. It does not read, record, or send the content of the pages you visit. The only server it talks to is the Tracya API, and only to save the flow you are building.

The access is scoped in time as well as in purpose: the extension acts on a page only while you have the Builder open on it. Close the Builder and it goes back to doing nothing. If you ever revoke the site permission from your browser's extension settings, the extension asks for it again the next time you open the Builder there.

Disconnect or revoke

To sign the extension out of a browser, open the popup and click Disconnect. That clears the token from that browser.

If you lose a device, or simply want to invalidate a token everywhere, open the Account tab in the dashboard and click Revoke next to the token. A revoked token stops working immediately, on every browser where it was used, and the extension will ask to connect again.
